Hotels.  Three major areas to get a  hotel in Anchorage.

1. Downtown hotels are nice because they are an easy walk to shopping, eating, and museums.  However, they are more expensive.

2. Airport hotels are great if you just need a bed for a few hours.  Most are also near to eating places.  The hotels I list will be economy hotels. However, still be prepared for sticker shock both on hotels and car rentals.  Anchorage has a two month June/July tourist season, and prices are dramatically inflated during that time.  Here are some hotels that I like the location and price, but there are scores of other hotels in town. You can use , ,  and others to book anchorage hotels. All these hotels will have free shuttle vans to/from the airport.

Midtown Hotels.  Not far from downtown and not far from airport. Plenty of eating places within walking distance.

  Puffin Inn.

  Holiday Inn Express

Lakefront.  Formerly the Millieneum hotel. Newly renovated.  Great spot on Lake Hood to watch seaplanes landing and taking off.

If budget is not an issue, the Captain Cook and Hilton are the most elite hotels in town.

Embassy Suites.

Car Rental.  Airport sites. If you are renting in summer, be prepared for sticker shock.  The car that will rent for $15/day in January will go for $75/day or more in July.  Anchorage airport has all the big name car rental companies: Hertz, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, National, and Thrifty. This  site gives contact info for all of these airport rental companies.

You also have off-airport rental car/van sites.  These will be cheaper – sometimes much cheaper.  But they can be more hassle. Generally, our staff is able to take you to one of these after your mission is over, or pick you up there.

High Country Car and Truck Rental.

Midnight Sun Car and Van Rental.
