ALASKA IDITAROD ADVENTURE 2020
What are you doing next March? Join us here in Alaska to get closer to God,
meet new friends, serve God by serving others, and have a great time!
You’ll hit the ground running when you get here. Friday we’ll get registered with the
Iditarod Race as volunteers. That afternoon we’ll be doing some volunteering serving
children in local parks. Saturday, we'll drive to Willow, Alaska and help do the
setup for the real start on Willow Lake. Sunday is race day and it will be a long one!
We will finish set up, serve as volunteers overseeing parking, traffic control, race security,
dog handling, and tearing down and cleaning up after the race is started and the crowds
have left. As you rub shoulders with other race volunteers, it is a great time to both
show and share your faith.
Afterwards, we’ll return to Anchorage and begin to go to work doing other things such
as volunteering at the Anchorage Food Bank for the Hungry, serving the Homeless, working with kids
at the local Boys and Girls Club, shoveling snow for the elderly, and after-school programs for disadvantaged kids at local parks.
Yes, we are going to work hard, but we will also have some time to play. For fun, there will be opportunities for snowhiking in the forest, moose-viewing (we call it moosing), sledding and checking out the Northern Lights. Possibly you will even get a chance to mush (drive) a dog sled team!
Schedule:
March 5. Thursday. Arrive Anchorage afternoon/evening (ok to arrive March 6)
March 6. Friday. Orientation, Snow Hike, Afternoon volunteering

How much? We do a turn-key project that covers everything except airfare.

guided sightseeing/fun. Cost/person is $650. This is our most popular project
of the year and it fills up quickly. We cannot confirm your booking until we
receive your application and $100 nonrefundable deposit
(send to Graceworks, 4149 Checkmate Dr, Anchorage, AK 99508).

Note: The Iditarod Volunteering portion of this mission is very physically challenging. Please do not sign up if you are not in good health. Housing requires climbing stairs.
Note: There is always a possibility of them moving the race start to Fairbanks instead of Willow due to lack of snow. If this happens, the schedule above will change and we spend a day going to Fairbanks and a day returning. And ... it will be much colder!
