Talkeetna Day Trip

Welcome to quirky Talkeetna.  It was the inspiration for the  TV show, “Northern Exposure.”  Everything is very compact and in easy walking distance.   Lots of live entertainment street music.  On clear days there is an amazing view of Denali.  The mayor of Talkeetna is a cat named “Stubbs.”   Also hosts the famous “Wilderness Woman” contest each December.    Did I say “quirky?”   Lots of choices of things to do listed below.  Depending on what you choose to do below, you will

need to contact them and schedule and reserve in advance. 

TRAVEL DETAILS.  Driving Trip is 2 hours 30 minutes each way

from Anchorage without stops. The Talkeetna option works

best if you have a later flight departure Saturday night.  

FLIGHTSEEING TO DENALI.  North America’s tallest peak. 

10.30am and 12.30.  Glacier Landing 11.00 and 1.00pm

departure.  Price depends on how long of a flight and

if you choose a glacier landing. One of the most amazing

JETBOAT WILDERNESS TOURS.  This trip is approximately one hour on the water and one hour on land at their  “Adventure Site”  including a walk to a trapper’s cabin and

Dena'ina Native encampment.

ZIP LINE​.   3 hours.  10.30- 1.30 or 12.00-3pm.  experiencing 9 different

ziplines and 3 suspension bridges all offering mountain vistas of

Denali and the Alaska Range

SHOPPING​.  Bunches of gift shops, book shops and art galleries to

explore.  And of course you have to check out Nagley’s Store. 

EATING. Talkeetna Roadhouse. My favorite place.  Old frontier feeling. 

Wondeful bakery, and also awesome breakfast till 2.00pm including

sourdough pancakes made from  starter that began in 1902.

RAILROAD​.  Catch the train here in Anchorage (or Wasilla) and ride to Talkeetna one way. 

Train departs Anchorage 8.15am and arrives talkeetna 11.05am.  Return departs Talkeetna

5pm and arrives Anchorage 8pm.   Or, take the train up and have one of your drivers
